Further Education Units

The Westcountry Rivers Trust is currently designing a suite of River Studies Units that cover a range of topics related to the river basin and the river corridor.

These Units are in the process of being accredited by the Open College Network and will include surveying ponds, lakes and rivers, from source to sea, management of the river corridor and the wildlife and fisheries therein, as well as sustainable river basin management both in the urban and rural environment.

Learners from a variety of different backgrounds will develop the skills necessary to assess the sections within the river basin and evaluate possible management options, using the Ecosystem Approach which considers social, economic and ecological factors.

The courses are being offered by Duchy College, Stoke Climsland through their national and first diploma courses. The progression map, shown below, details the levels of the courses.

Further information about these courses will be made available through this site shortly. If you are interested in the River Studies units please inform us of your interest (laurence@wrt.org.uk) and we will send you information electronically as it becomes available.
